Jamie has been
driving a Taxi in London for 12 years, obtaining his license in May
1991 after completing the famous "knowledge of London" where a
knowledge boy has the task of learning and committing to memory
every street, road, avenue, theatre, cinema, museum, tourist
attraction, places of interest, monuments, government buildings,
hospitals, police stations, fire stations and so on, within a six
mile radius of Charing Cross.
Once completed the
above it is required then to learn the suburbs of London and then
pass an extended driving test in a London Taxi.
Jamie has gained an
enormous amount of knowledge of London, its history and the London
Taxi Trade since obtaining his license, undertaking extra courses on
the historical side of London to further enhance his knowledge.
In 1999 Jamie
registered the internet domain name
www.london-taxi.co.uk
much to the amusement of many of his fellow Taxi drivers who thought
that it was a waste of time, the website started in a very humble
way and soon grew into a very popular site for both Taxi drivers,
tourists and people with an interest in London and its World famous
Taxi's. Many enquiries started to flood in with requests to book a
London Taxi on-line which led to the online quotation section of the
site being added. The website now attracts over 1 million visitors a
year which is probably more than most of the other London Taxi
related websites put together. The London-Taxi.co.uk website has now
evolved into a fully Limited company under the name of The London
Taxi Company.com Ltd of which Jamie is the Managing Director.
Another avenue that
was explored due to customer requests was that of supplying London
Taxi's for use as Wedding vehicles, hence the birth of Wedding Taxis
(www.weddingtaxis.co.uk)
which has grown in popularity with prospective brides and grooms
hence the purchase of the new White TXII London Taxi. Wedding Taxis
is also now a Limited company with Jamie undertaking the role of
Managing Director for this company.
Jamie is also the
Vice Chairman and Public Relations Officer of The Albany Taxi
Charity Fund for children with special needs.

Another position
held is that of Chairman of The Taxi Drivers Society, a newly formed
driver organisation to look after the welfare of its Taxi driving
members aan to promote the Taxi trade within London to the rest of
the World.
Jamie is also a
member of The Company of Hackney Carriage Drivers and participates
in their annual charity event each year taking seriously ill
children from hospitals in and around London on The Magical Taxi
Tour to Disneyland Paris in a convoy of over 100 taxi's.
Jamie also participates in The Taxi
Benevolent Association for The War Disabled annual outing to
Worthing for Old Soldiers and The East London Cabbies Outing for
Disabled Children's outing to Maldon Essex. |
